Roll Cage Part 2

Looking at the boot lid hinges, they were getting in the way and quite frankly looked ugly. As the original spring based mechanism that would normally hold the boot open had been removed, parts of the hinges could be cut away. Extra mountings could then be added in as necessary.

The next parts to look at were the bars that run above the windows from the back to the front of the car. Normally this would continue straight down to the chassis rails at the front of the car but the bulkhead already had seamless tubing uprights in place so a different way to connect this was planned. With some very careful machining some plugs were made that were a very tight fit in the tube (hammer tight!). They were machined with a 5mm shoulder in the centre that stood up for exactly half the thickness of the wall of the tubing, this would give a good channel to fill with weld. The tubes were also drilled to plug weld the inserts into place just to make sure.
